Bonnie Guitar

Bonnie Guitar (1923–2023) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, primarily known for her contributions to country and pop music. Born Bonnie Buckingham in Seattle, Washington, she began her career in the 1940s and gained fame for her smooth vocals and innovative guitar playing. One of her most notable works is the 1950 hit "Dark Moon," which she wrote and recorded, later becoming a standard covered by various artists, including The Larks and Johnny Horton. Her 1957 single "I'm Happy About the Whole Thing" also achieved commercial success, further establishing her as a prominent figure in the music scene. Guitar's impact on music extends beyond her recordings; she was a pioneer for female artists in the male-dominated country genre. She founded her own record label, Dolphin Records, in the 1960s, which allowed her to champion other artists and promote independent music.
